Patience Pays |
Knoxville, IA- The drizzly and wet weather in Knoxville has not slowed down the young ParkerStore sponsored World of Outlaws pilot. Schatz spent Tuesday, his birthday, at a local lake trying to learn patience. Inside sources say that the car owner, Donny's father, thought he needed to take a day or two and go fishing in order to learn the meaning of patience. Do you think Donny might have got a little anxious at Eldora? Schatz opened Thursday night's festivities by qualifying 6th out of 64 cars. "He qualified in the 52nd position and actually did quite well for being that late in the field," stated Diane Schatz. The fastest qualifier of the night was Danny Lasoski with a time of 15.955. Donny turned in a best lap of 16.317. In the qualifying event, Donny started in the tenth position and was able to work his way through the field to pick up the win. They did not run the dash event during Thursday night's program, as it is strictly a point system for the Knoxville Nationals. This gave him a 6th place starting position for the main event. Donny ran a very strong race and worked his way up to the second place position. A late race red flag placed a lap car in between race leader Tyler Walker and himself. With only nine laps remaining, he was not able to get enough momentum to get around the eventual race winner, Walker. "The car was running really strong. I think that if we had a few more laps we could have caught Tyler. We were the fastest car out there," added Diane. (John Strand-August 13, 1999) |
