LaFavre Racing Teams to field two ParkerStore Nascar ReMax teams at Rockford

chris-crewchief.jpg (17809 bytes)Lakeville, MN- LaFavre Racing Teams owner, Scott LaFavre, has just announced that the team will be fielding two ParkerStore cars for this weekends Winston National Short Track Championships at Rockford, IL.

The team will be bringing on Johnny Sauter to drive Jimmy Mars back up car. Sauter has driven for LaFavre in the past in the ASA series, as well as the local Nascar late model series. Sauter recently won the McLeod USA Gold Star series event at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, IA in a ParkerStore sponsored LaFavre Racing Teams entry. "We're bringing in Johnny to get some seat time in the ReMax cars for the last two events," said Scott LaFavre. "He will be running the full ReMax program for us next year and this is an opportunity for him to get the feel of the cars."

The Mars brothers have done a lot of testing since their asphalt debut in Rockford earlier this year. "We've learned a lot over the past six months," said crew chief Chris Mars. "We should be pretty fast this weekend. If we qualify well, we should have a good shot at winning the race. The whole asphalt racing program has been a new challenge this year. We're not used to being backmarkers, but that’s all going to change in the near future. We haven't had a chance to chat with the trophy girls much lately."

This event is the 15th stop for the 1999 ReMax tour. Mars is currently in the eighth position in the overall points race. He has seven top ten finishes in thirteen starts. The team fell victim to the bad luck gremlins earlier in the year, but everyone feels that it's behind them now. "I'm real excited about this weekend," said team manager Terry Garrison. "The test sessions for Jimmy have gone really well and their confidence level is high. Johnny has also done really well in the late models, so we're hoping that carries over to the ReMax cars."

The 37th annual Winston National Short Track Championships will be held at the Rockford Speedway on September 23-26. The 'American TV 400' is scheduled to take the green flag at 1:15. For more information or tickets, please contact the speedway at (815) 633-1500.
