He has run some of the best races of his career there, winning 21 of the 42 "A" Features the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series has sanctioned at Bob Wente's track.

"The King of the Outlaws" dominated Saturday's main event, leading all 30 laps and taking the checkered flag more than a straightaway ahead of runner-up Donny Schatz.

"I wish we could be as confident at other tracks as we are here," Steve said. "We just seem to always get around here pretty good, and we've won a lot of races here. We just have to keep winning races and having a fast car, and the championships will come."

The $10,000 victory, Kinser's second of the season, pushed him to within 26 points of points leader Danny Lasoski.

Kinser, the second-fastest qualifier in the 28-car field, won the Second CHANNELLOCK Dash from inside the second row for the right to start the "A" Feature on the front row with pole-sitter Lance Blevins.

"The King of the Outlaws" drove his #11 Quaker State Maxim into the lead as the green flag fell in the main event, only to have Brooke Tatnell crash into the fourth-corner retaining wall before the leaders completed the first lap. Kinser raced wheel-to-wheel with Blevins down the front straightaway and through turn one, surged ahead in the second corner and never looked back.

"Starting up front helped us a bunch," Kinser said. "We got a good jump there in the CHANNELLOCK Dash, and when you have guys like Sammy (Swindell) and Stevie Smith behind you at the start, it's a pretty big advantage.

"This Quaker State Maxim felt really good, and the Hoosier tires were perfect tonight. We might have been a little late finding the rubber on the bottom of the track, but it felt so good early on the top. This year, it's up to the drivers to find the right line. Taking the radios out of these cars is the best thing they (Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series officials) ever did."

Swindell, who won the Fourth NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race, exchanged fifth place with Dale Blaney as Kinser opened a half-straightaway advantage during the seventh lap. Smith drove his #19 Ingersoll-Rand Black Bandit into the high groove in turn three to pass Blaney for sixth place two laps later.

Kevin Whitworth crashed in the first corner late in lap 10. Greg Hodnett flipped Jimmy Vasser's #V12 Wirtgen Maxim on the backstretch as the green flag replaced the yellow and was taken to a nearby hospital for observation. The series' 1993 Rookie of the Year suffered a broken shoulder and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks of action. Mark Kinser was also involved in the crash, but was uninjured.

"The King of the Outlaws" raced away from the field as the race resumed, and was a full straightaway ahead of his closest pursuers within seven laps. Schatz raced wheel-to-wheel with Blevins on the back stretch during the 18th lap, but was unable to complete the pass for second place.

Schatz drove the #15 ParkerStores Maxim deep in the fourth corner to pass Blevins the next time around. He closed to within a half- straightaway of Kinser within a lap as the leaders raced through dense lapped traffic.

Brian Paulus was challenging Blevins for third place when Swindell steered his #1 CHANNELLOCK Stealth into the low groove in turn one to pass Paulus. Swindell, an eight-time winner at Tri-City Speedway, won a back-stretch drag race with Blevins to claim third place with 3 1/2 laps remaining.

Blevins jumped from 13th into a 10th-place tie with Joey Saldana by finishing fourth. Blaney finished in fifth place, ahead of Lasoski, Smith, Danny Wood, Paulus and 20th-starting Andy Hillenburg.

Joey Saldana received his fourth Vivarin Fast-Time Award of the season for pacing the qualifying session with a 16.861-second, 106.755-m.p.h. lap around the semi-banked, 1/2-mile oval.

DOCC Motorsports's crew replaced the engine in the #20 Networks Eagle after hot laps, and Johnny Herrera finished 15th in the feature.
