Mars8-16-00.jpg (13031 bytes)Elk Mound, WI (August 16, 2000) Jimmy Mars Racing is preparing to go topless this weekend as America's toughest dirt late model campaigners gather in Batesville, AR for the running of the annual "Topless 100" sponsored by Competition Cams.

Mars, like his fellow competitors, will pop the top off of his ParkerStore backed Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the special event which features the high-horsepower machines orbiting the 3/8 mile Arkansas oval with nothing overhead except the rollbars. The event is one of the most lucrative of the racing season for the dirt late model drivers as Mars is looking to score his 4th win of the 2000 season.

In a total of 42 feature starts during the 2000 season Jimmy has registered 3 wins, 2 pole awards and 22 top-10 finishes. Last season Jimmy took a leave of absence from regular competition on the nation's dirt tracks to compete in NASCAR's RE/MAX Challenge Series where he captured the circuit's Rookie of the Year honors. Jimmy Mars Racing continues to grow toward the team's long-term goals of competing on NASCAR's premier tours in the coming years.

The Arkansas trip gives Jimmy Mars Racing a brief break from the grueling schedule of the Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Series points competition as the "Topless 100" in an unsanctioned event. Jimmy will be looking to rebound in his efforts following Tuesday night's disappointing 20th place finish in the Joplin, MO Hav-A-Tampa visit. Even through the adversity Mars is ranked in 9th place on the Hav-A-Tampa Series national championship standings. Following this weekend's "Topless 100" at Batesville Speedway, Jimmy will swing back into Hav-A-Tampa Series action with three separate championship races slated for the cigar-sponsored tour next week.

The traveling tour embarks on a swing through the Hawkeye State with a Tuesday night (Aug 22nd) stop at Adams County Speedway in Corning, IA and then on to West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, IA on Wednesday evening (Aug 23rd) in a pair of 60-lap, $10,000-to-win main events. The series will then move to the Cincinnati, OH area for a Saturday night (Aug 26th) stop at Florence Speedway in Union, KY. The trip to Florence Speedway's half-mile high banks will kick off with a special Friday night (Aug 25th) event sanctioned by the STARS National Dirt Car Racing League.

Jimmy hopes to propel his MasterSbilt Chassis prepared Chevrolet to success during the heavy racing schedule of next week.
