Just One Week Away From History-Making "One Million to Win" Race at Eldora Speedway ELK MOUND, WI (September 29, 2000) Jimmy Mars competes this weekend in the WISSOTA sanctioned Red Clay Classic in the events Silver Anniversary running at Ashland, WI. The event has greeted Mars in the winners circle on three previous occasions (1994-96) and the hard charging Mars comes into the weekend following last weekends Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Series event at Lowes Motor Speedway. Mars battled through the field of heavy competition to earn a starting spot for his ParkerStore sponsored Chevrolet Monte Carlo at the Charlotte, NC event. This weekend Mars returns to his upper-Midwestern roots in tonight and Saturday's (Sep 29-30) racing action at the Ashland, WI 3/8-mile clay oval. Mars will make this weekends outing in the ParkerStore/Gilberts Motors Chevrolet as the team readies for weekends long anticipated Eldora Million at Rossburg, OHs Eldora Speedway. The biggest career win for the talented and personable Wisconsin racer came at Eldora Speedways hallowed half-mile of dirt when Jimmy collected $100,000 for his 1997 winning run in the dirt late model Dream race. The pilot of the ParkerStore Total Hose and Fittings Monte Carlo would love to increase his largest career achievement by 10 fold when the green flag waves at Eldora Speedway in the million dollar scramble, and it is now just one week away and counting. When Mars and his fellow competitors duke it out at the dirt racing record-breaking ONE MILLION DOLLAR winners payout at the October 6-7 race, history will certainly be made and Mars would like nothing more that to etch his name in the record books as race winner. Mars appeared to have a strong car for last months running of the 30th Annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway on September 9th before a blown tire ended his run for the night Once the dust settles from the million dollar run in Ohio, Mars will head south to Atlanta for the season-ending Hav-A-Tampa series event of the year at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA. The October 13-14 Hav-A-Tampa Shootout offers the winner over $53,000 and will close the curtain on the 2000 Hav-A-Tampa season which has criss-crossed the nation on its 45 race schedule. Mars has battled as one of dirt late model racings finest talents on the tour's season-long national title chase and with just the one Hav-A-Tampa event remaining is assured of a top-10 finish in the National Championship standings on the cigar-sponsored circuit. Jimmy takes the ParkerStore backed ride into Hav-A-Tampa action at the Atlanta, GA event with 2 Hav-A-Tampa series pole awards under his belt for the 2000 season. Mars will also compete in the Friday night (Oct 13) preliminary event at for this seasons Hav-A-Tampa series pole winners in a special 15-lap $5,000 to win dash. Mars won the special format race in 1998. On Saturday Mars will be gunning for the big prize at the special Dixie Speedway Hav-A-Tampa finale. (Contributed by Ozzie Altman) |
