OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Donny Schatz was hoping Saturday's run from 18th to sixth would be a springboard for the ParkerStores #15 team, but trouble struck early in Sunday's O'Reilly Spring Nationals 25-lap "A" Feature. Andy Hillenburg spun and left Schatz with no place to go but into the guardrail, which destroyed a number of components on the #15 J&J, ending their race and crediting the team with a 24th place finish. "We're having some really bad luck to start the season," said Schatz. "We really wanted to get off to a good start, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case. We ran well in the feature on Saturday, but just ran out of laps. I thought today was going to be a good race for us. I guess the only thing we can do is put these problems behind us and do our best next weekend." After qualifying 18th on Saturday at the 1/2-mile track, Schatz was determined to start the program with a solid qualifying run and he did so by timing in third fastest of the 33 cars that qualified. He finished third in the third heat and ninth in the Channellock Dash earning "the Minot Missile" a fifth row starting position for the feature. Schatz was in ninth after the opening lap and was hoping for another charge to the front, but those hopes faded when Hillenburg got crossed up in turn two getting sideways and blocked the track momentarily, which forced Donny high into the fence. Schatz and the ParkerStores team will return to their raceshop in Broken Arrow, OK this week, and will prepare for two one-night programs next weekend. First on Friday night in Sedalia, MO and on Saturday at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, MO. (Article by Bill Klingbeil) |
