The fans that attended Cedar Lake's second night of it's annual doubleheader opener were in for a special treat as the Late Model feature that was rained out the night before was rescheduled to kick things off tonight. A few new cars joined the festivities for a much warmer and sunnier night of racing as the Late Model make-up main event was up first on the card.

Mike Sorensen and Jimmy Mars paced the field to the green flag of the Late Model main event. Mars looked as if he was shot out of a cannon as he blasted off into the night and never looked back as he ran away from the battle for second between Joel Cryderman and Sorensen. Cryderman dropped to the low side and pulled alongside of Sorensen for second as Mars continued to pull away from the field. Mars began to encounter lapped traffic on lap 8 as Jeff Wildung and Pat Doar began to march to the front on the high line, as they both appeared in the top five on lap 10.

Cryderman wrestled second away from Sorensen as Wildung shot to the outside of Jeff Keeney for fourth. Wildung quickly began to reel in Sorensen and wasted no time blasting to the outside and taking over the third spot on lap 12. Doar and Dave Zimmerman began their own battle for position as they circled the speedway wheel to wheel for several laps until the caution flew on lap 15, erasing the huge lead that Mars had amassed.

The green flag flew with five laps to go and Mars picked up right where he left off before the caution as he checked out on the field again, leaving the battle on the speedway for second. Wildung ducked to the inside of Cryderman for second while Doar shot to the outside of Sorensen for fourth as the white flag flew. Mars went on to pick up the easy win, as Cryderman was able to withstand the charge from Wildung to cross the line in second. Sorensen also held off the challenges by Doar to finish in fourth.
