Donny Schatz returned to Australia with hopes of taking over the World Series Sprintcars points lead, but in the past two events bad luck has made his championship aspirations look bleak. "When things are going your way, everything works out, but right now we're not getting any breaks," said Schatz. "We'll get things going our way again and hopefully, we can do it this week." On Saturday night at Blue Ribbon Raceway, he broke the 10-lap record in his second heat following a disappointing qualifying run. In the feature he had the #15 Wattleup Tractors / For Wood Tools / Castrol / Monte Motorsport J&J in a solid third spot for about 95% of the race until his right rear tire blew with only two laps remaining. He wasn't able to replace the tire and finish the race, which credited him with 14th place.
Schatz and the Monte Motorsports crew will hope to regroup before a busy week of action with two WSS races (Tuesday and Wednesday) and the week culminating with the $50,000-to-win event at Paramatta City Speedway.
