Memphis,
TN - May 8, 2003 - Donny Schatz and Tyler Walker are tuned up and ready for
the Hoosier Twin Fifties at Indianapolis Raceway Park this weekend. The R.E.
Technologies Racing teammates spent time testing at IRP and Nazareth in
preparation for this weekend’s USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown event. “We
trimmed a second off our time on a windy and overcast day at the test,” Walker
said. “I think the track will be faster when we return, there should be more
grip and we should be able to pick up more time.”
Danny and Tyler turned over 150 laps each during the test at IRP. “We worked
on the car all day,” Schatz said. “Jack French tweaked the shocks and other
handling components looking for the right combination.”
Indianapolis Raceway Park has been a challenging track for the team. “IRP is a
real competitive track because most of the guys that run sprint cars and midgets
there know the track a lot better than those who just run the Silver Crown
program,” states Team Manager Chris Santucci. Donny Schatz agreed, “IRP is
definitely a driver’s track. I have heard from a number of drivers that if you
can hustle a Silver Crown car around IRP, you can get around anywhere.”
This is a high profile race for Donny and Tyler, with Indy Pole qualifying going
on just down the road from IRP. “You get a big crowd out there usually,”
said Walker. “There will be a lot of IRL people out there watching so it will
be good for the drivers to prove themselves. IRP is a great place for that and
to have a lot of fun.”
With Top-20 finishes at Phoenix, both drivers are looking for a good season.
“I want to practice well, qualify for the race and finish all 100 laps, said
Schatz. There is still a great deal for me to learn about these cars, especially
on the pavement and just getting as many laps as I can.” |
