KILGORE, TX – Donny Schatz and his ParkerStore World of Outlaws sprint car team were feeling pretty good on Saturday morning. The night before Schatz made a thrilling last lap pass of Tim Shaffer to secure a fourth place finish at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, TX.

They were happy about hearing every team’s favorite two words in a two-night Outlaw show: “Locked in.” Mother Nature ended up taking the checkered flag on Saturday, and the team will have to wait until October to return for the feature event.

“We got going pretty well in the feature, but I wish we would have had a few more laps,” said Schatz, who started his #15 ParkerStore J&J ninth in the 20-lap prelim. “We usually go 25 laps and that would have helped us, but the main thing was that we ended up with another top four run. I guess we’ll be back here in October. I sure like racing here.”

Schatz qualified 12th in the field of 30 cars before finishing second in the first heat race. His fifth place finish in the first Dash event earned him a starting spot on the inside of row five. The Fargo, ND pilot raced his way into seventh passing Joey Saldana and then on lap 14, he took sixth from Danny Lasoski. During the final stages, he raced the #15 J&J past Tyler Walker and then in the last corner took fourth place from Tim Shaffer with a daring, inside move as they raced toward the checkered flag. The finish will put him into the Dash event of the "A" Feature program, when it is made up in October.

“We’re heading back to North Dakota for a week and a half and have plenty to do,” said Schatz. “The start of the season has gone fairly well. We’ve been consistent, which was a big goal of ours, but we want to win races too. We haven’t gotten that done yet, but we’re off to a solid beginning. I know everyone is going to enjoy their last weekend off of the summer in March.”

Schatz and the team will spend the next few days back in their Fargo (ND) shop. They will return to action on Friday, March 26 at the semi-banked, 3/8-mile Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA.
