Pelham, NH: Just a few weeks after scoring the first Pole Award of his career, driving a NASCAR Featherlite Modified, 18-year-old Sean Caisse found himself behind the wheel of a full-bodied NASCAR Busch North Series ride in the Sylvania 125 at the New Hampshire International Speedway. It was the same track that literally propelled his career after a strong showing in the Modifieds.

Pre-race practice allowed Caisse to get used to the new characteristics of the car and had him post the 11th fastest time. During qualifying, the Chevrolet developed a loose condition and placed him 21st on the starting grid.

“We wanted to back up what we practiced”, said Caisse, “but getting solidly in the field was the goal”.

At the drop of the green flag, Caisse began his march toward the front – racing against and passing some of the most seasoned veterans in the series. He made smart choices and showed patience when it counted.

“I think being patient was the key,” he explained, “we had a really good car, but passing is tough (at NHIS). I had to wait for the right opportunities”.

There were just 19 laps remaining, when Caisse was knocking on the door of the top-ten. However, when another car created a three-wide situation, Caisse was forced to back out of the throttle. Simultaneously, the other competitor washed up into Caisse and caused them both to spin. Caisse’s car was then hit by another and forced him out of the event.

“Sure, we wanted to finish – that was our goal, starting the race and finishing it. We were in good position to grab a top-ten, but it wasn’t to be. I guess I’m disappointed and happy at the same time. We accomplished what we set out to do, but were unable to close the deal. But it was a good weekend overall”.

Plans are now being formulated for Caisse to compete on the NASCAR Busch North Series full time in 2005.
